What is a DLC key?
A DLC key is a code that unlocks add-on content for a game you already own — a season pass, an expansion, a character or map pack, a pre-order bonus, or an upgrade from one edition to another. It redeems on the same platform the base game lives on, and almost everything on this shelf activates on Steam or Xbox.
Add-ons are discounted on a different cycle from the games they belong to, which is why a season pass is often the part of a purchase worth comparing hardest.
What to check before you buy a DLC
You need the base game, on the same account. A DLC key will redeem against an account that does not own the game and then sit in the library doing nothing. Check what the add-on requires before you buy it, not after.
Region. Every offer here shows its region, and a DLC is region-locked the same way a game is. A key bought for the wrong region will not redeem and is rarely refunded.
Season pass or expansion. They are not the same thing. A season pass is a promise of content that may not all be released yet; an expansion is one release you can read about today. The listing says which it is.
Upgrades are not add-ons. An edition upgrade applies to a specific edition you already hold. Bought against the wrong one it does nothing, and this shelf carries a lot of them.
How to actually pay less on add-ons
Price the bundle against the parts. A Deluxe edition of the base game often costs less than the base game plus its season pass bought separately — and sometimes considerably more. It is worth the two minutes before either purchase.
Watch the price rather than the sale. Discounts run on a cycle, and an add-on that is 40% off today may be 70% off in two months. We record every price change we see, so each product page shows what it has actually cost over time rather than just what it costs now.
We're not a store. We don't hold stock, we don't take payment, and we earn a commission when you buy through a link here — which never changes the price you pay.
