What is a subscription key?
A subscription key is a code that adds a fixed length of membership to an account — Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation Plus, Nintendo Switch Online, EA Play — and then expires. You are buying time, not a product, which makes the length and the tier as much a part of the price as the number is.
Prepaid codes are frequently cheaper than renewing inside the platform, and because they stack they can be bought while they are cheap rather than when the membership runs out.
What to check before you buy a subscription
The tier. Game Pass Core, Standard and Ultimate are different memberships at different prices, as are PS Plus Essential, Extra and Premium. A code for one does not upgrade the other, and the cheapest row on this shelf is rarely the tier people mean.
The length. One, three and twelve months are separate listings. The per-month cost of a twelve-month code is usually well below three one-month codes, which is the saving most worth having here.
Region. Every offer shows its region, and memberships are among the most strictly region-locked products there are. A code bought for the wrong country will not apply.
Conversion rules. Some platforms convert an existing membership when you redeem a code for a different tier, at a rate that is not in your favour. Check what is already on the account before redeeming.
How to actually pay less on memberships
Buy the length, not the month. The twelve-month code is almost always the cheaper way to hold the same membership, and codes stack onto time you already have.
Watch the price rather than the sale. Discounts run on a cycle, and a membership that is 40% off today may be 70% off in two months. We record every price change we see, so each product page shows what it has actually cost over time rather than just what it costs now.
We're not a store. We don't hold stock, we don't take payment, and we earn a commission when you buy through a link here — which never changes the price you pay.
